About this event

Irie Morning is a children’s picture book featuring a delightful poem and engaging watercolour illustrations. It is the first book in a series about an irie 8 year-old boy named Kingston, living on the cliffs of Negril with his family.

The delightful and captivating first installation is about the day Kingston decides he wants to stay in bed despite the alluring sounds of birds, cows and dogs that try to draw him out from beneath the covers. Kingston must decide whether he will give in to sleep or be true to his adventurous and fun-loving nature.

The book captures the sensibility of a Jamaican childhood, the sights, the sounds, the smells: from the crow of a rooster in the morning to the mouth-watering smells of sweet sugar dumplings rising up from the kitchen.

Alison Moss-Solomon Is a publicist and TV show producer. Alison first decided to write a children’s book when she became a mother at 31.

Constantly watching children’s TV with her son, she soon realized that many cultures were being represented by colourful, loveable characters such as Dora, Diego and Kai Lan. However what was missing was a Caribbean character her son could identify with, someone out of many one people with unique skills, relevant to his island home.
