About this event

Single-use plastic bags and styrofoam containers, widely used in Jamaica, are a threat to both the environment and our health. Next Wednesday, December 6, join the Caribbean Policy Research Institute as we discuss solutions to eliminate both from our waste stream.

We will be joined for this conversation by Dr. Parris Lyew-Ayee (Mona GIS) and Mr. Anthony McKenzie (NEPA), both members of the working group set up by the Jamaican government to design a policy framework for the elimination of both "scandal" bags and styrofoam.

We are looking forward to a productive debate on an issue which affects every single one of us. While certain companies (such as Island Grill or PriceSmart) have, of their own initiative, implemented solutions, policies will be crucial in ensuring the widespread elimination of these plastics which take hundreds of years to break down, are blocking drainages, and, ending up in our oceans, ultimately can end up on our plate.
